Femi Olanipekun is a broadcast journalist with about 15 years’ experience in Presentation, Production as well as News and Current Affairs in both public and private broadcast sectors, the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria and now at Rave 91.7 FM, Osogbo, Osun state. Femi, who has a Bachelors of Education Degree in English and Educational Management from the University of Ibadan, has always been fascinated about information and driven by a strong passion and desire to distil information to the public for them to make better and informed decisions. This led him to apply for internship at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria in his second year at the University and was subsequently retained. He followed up with trainings at different organizations including the FRCN Academy now National Broadcast Academy and Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria, ISMN amongst others to hone his skills in Presentation and later on, Public Speaking as well as Management. In his about 15 years in the broadcast industry, Femi has at different times worked as a Sportscaster/Sports Producer, Duty Continuity Announcer otherwise called On Air Personality (OAP), Newscaster, News Editor and Reporter amongst others. He was the pioneer Head of News and Current Affairs at Rave 91.7 FMbefore being promoted to Head of Station early 2017, running the day to day affairs of the broadcast outfit and leading it to emerge as the best radio station in the state for a second straight year. Femi is passionate about Good Governance, Accountability and Youth Development. At Rave FM, he runs the station’s flagship programme, FRANKTALK, a daily hour long socio-economic and political talk show focusing on topical issues within the polity at state, national and international levels. The programme,FRANKTALK, has built a reputation for its frank, fair, objective and balanced look at issues and events with a view to enlightening the populace. With a tough and hard interviewing style inspired by Stephen Sackur´s HARDTALK on the BBC,FRANKTALK serves as a platform to dissect policies and issues by engaging socio - political leaders as well as other critical stakeholders and actors for the people to have a better understanding of these developments. In the last three and half years, Femi has hosted on FRANKTALK, eminent personalities and policy makers including Ministers, Senators, members of the House of Representatives, Presidential Spokesmen, Special Advisers, elder statesmen, commissioners, activists, top economists, lawyers, top diplomats like Public Affairs Officer of the United States Consulate, British Deputy High Commissioner, professors, policy analysts, traditional rulers and much more. The conversations are geared towards engendering good governance, probity and accountability by bringing government and governance closer to the people. The programme which drives heavy traffic of listeners on both terrestrial and social media platforms, has won many awards. Femi volunteers with several civil society organizations to speak on and advocate for good governance, youth development, transparency, accountability and media training. Amongst others, Femi served as the Osun State Media Coordinator for the National Democratic Institute, NDI funded Vote Not Fight campaign run by Kimpact Development Initiative as well asworking on the Campaign Finance Monitoring project of the Justice, Development and Peace Makers’ Centre which was supported by theInternational Foundation for Electoral Systems, IFES. A multiple award winner, Femi is an alumnus of the Edward R. Murrow Programme for Journalists of the prestigious International Visitors Leadership Programme of the US State Department, participating in a raft of programmes and courses at The Poynter Institute for Media Studies, Tampa, Florida, Journalism Under Fire Conference at New Mexico, amongst many others. Femi Olanipekun is married to another broadcast journalist, Omolade Olanipekun of Continental Broadcasting Service. They are blessed with lovely children.
